Alan in Chernobyl - Part 5 - Pripyat Fairground

Pripyat fairground, the most iconic location in Chernobyl.

Our guide warned us to stay away from the moss as there was a lot growing over the concrete here. To show us why, he moved the Geiger counter over this patch of soil. The readings went crazy. Soil, leaves and moss are very good at absorbing radiation so walking on them around here is a big no-no.

The famous ferris wheel.

Dodgems.

Don't touch the leaves!

These used to be swings.

There's Damien on the right.

Damien plants a claymore.

Wish I could still ride it...

Spot Ninja Alan!

Soviet symbols atop the high-rises.

Guess this was painted after the accident.

Once a lamppost?

We drove on a short way, the concrete surfaces have really gone to hell around here and the car was jolting around.

An apple tree. I wouldn't recommend eating these unless you want to glow in the dark.
